Friends at Sea, a Full Haul Home — AAAA’s Deep-Sea Fishing Social

They say fishing is one of the best ways for grown-ups to unwind — the sea breeze rises, the rod goes out, and the noise of the city and the stacks of case files all stay back on shore.
On August 2, 2026, the Asian American Attorneys Association (AAAA), together with the CSY Club, set sail from Freeport, Long Island aboard the Freeport Gem, a double-deck deep-sea party boat. The ~80-foot vessel comes with an air-conditioned lounge, a bar, and restrooms and can hold about 130 — but this time the Association booked it at just half capacity, so every angler had room to spare.
On board were attorneys, entrepreneurs, and professionals, along with families who brought their children. Once the lines went out, the deck filled with laughter. First-timers had nothing to worry about — the crew and seasoned anglers walked them through baiting, casting, and reeling in, and before long several had landed the very first fish of their lives, to cheers from the boat. The on-board fish-cleaning service meant everyone could take their fresh catch straight home, from sea to table.
The day also featured a friendly fishing contest to see who could reel in the biggest — and the most. First-, second-, and third-place winners were crowned, and attorney Yanfei Ran presented their prizes to rounds of applause and cheers. Families who came with children had a wonderful time too — with a little help the kids landed small fish (and even scooped up a crab or two), thrilled at every catch; and when watermelon and refreshments were served on deck, a touch of sweetness rode the sea breeze.
More than the size of the haul, the real reward was the chance to make friends at sea. On a single boat, people from all walks of life chatted and joked while waiting for a bite, swapped cards, and struck up new friendships — exactly what the Association had hoped for: widening circles, deepening ties, and enriching members’ lives beyond work.
As the boat turned back at sunset, everyone came home full — not just with a cooler of fresh fish, but with a whole day of good spirits and a boatful of new friends.
